]]>Vuelve "Cosmos" a la televisiónhttp://www.julioaprea.com/blog/2011/8/25/vuelve-cosmos-a-la-television.htmlJulio Aprea2011-08-25T17:39:42Z2011-08-25T17:39:42ZNeil deGrasse TysonUna de las noticias de Agosto que se me escapó y que me enteré hoy escuchando el podcast "Talking Space" es que la cadena de televisión estadounidense FOX aprobó la producción de una remake del documental "Cosmos".

Cosmos fue una serie documental presentada por Carl Sagan que promulgó temas como la Astronomía, el Big Bang, nuestro lugar en el universo y la exploración espacial. El programa en trece capítulos se televisó a principios de los ochenta, se emitió en 60 países y se estima que lo vieron 500 milliones de personas. Probablemente este documental y su libro homónimo fueron unas de las mayores influencias en la elección de mi carrera. Carl Sagan fue un astrónomo y pionero divulgador científico, murió en 1996 y dejó un gran vacío.

A principios de Agosto la cadena FOX aprobó la creación de la remake del programa, lo que demuestra la importancia del proyecto, ya que FOX es una de las cadenas principales, con programas como los Simpson, House y Fringe. De hecho el productor seleccionado es ni más ni menos que Seth MacFarlane, creador de Family Guy y American Dad. Como conductor del programa seleccionaron a Neil deGrasse Tyson (foto), astrofísico y divulgador científico, director del Hayden Planetarium, conductor del show NOVA scienceNOW. 

Creo que esta es una movida arriesgada para FOX, creando un programa cultural y scientífo en televisión abierta, una televisión actualmente plagada de programas basura como el Gran Hermano y otros realities, con los programas más serios normalmente relegados a canales de cable específicos como el Discovery Channel. Espero que la tele Argentina lo ponga al aire cuando salga, y que tengamos dos dedos de frente y miremos esto en lugar de a Tinelli.

After the Boxee Box got broken I realized I have a the moment the following options to play videos on my TV:

  • A broken Boxee Box... duh...
  • Western Digital TV Live
  • Apple TV
  • Xbox 360
  • Playstation 3
  • The French Freebox that comes with the Internet Service
  • My Samsung TV, that although with a very bad and slow interface, can access media servers.

Now, I realize that none of these options fulfill all my needs, that's why I have such a mess of devices conected to my TV, and I have to keep switching cables around all the time. When guests come to my house, they cannot just seat and watch TV anymore, they need a 1 hour training session just to turn the system on.

This is my list of features that my ultimate dream TV box would have in order to drop all others:

  • Full HD 1080p (yes Apple, I notice the difference between 720p an 1080p)
  • Format support (not all boxes support all formats, particularly the WDTV Live and the Boxee do better in this aspect, especially to Mkv files and 5.1 sound)
  • Airplay, it didn't exist a couple of months, but I do love this feature on my Apple TV
  • A store, such as the Apple Store, cheap easy access to legal quality content, that's the way to stop piracy.
  • Internal Storage or the posibility to attach an external hard, which can also be shared with the rest of the network.
  • Access to shared media in the network, not only via DNLA, but I want the devide to access my shared folders directly, yay WD TV Live and Boxee on this one.
  • User interface! Apple TV and Boxee win on this one. The social interface in Boxee is just brillant, and the matching of my existing media with additional information from the web is just awesome.
  • Apps Apps Apps -> Boxee
  • Access to online free content, it is a pity that we are so limited outside of the US, I'd love to be able to access Hulu and Netflix.

Broken Chair is a monumental sculpture in wood by the Swiss artist Daniel Berset, constructed by the carpenter Louis Genève. It is constructed of 5.5 tons of wood and is 12 metres (39 feet) high.
It depicts a giant chair with a broken leg and stands across the street from the Palace of Nations, in Geneva. It symbolises opposition to land mines and cluster bombs, and acts as a reminder to politicians and others visiting Geneva.
